Trnava Self-Governing Region is administratively divided into 7 districts: Dunajská Streda, Galanta, Hlohovec, Piešťany, Senica, Skalica and Trnava. The Region with its territory’s size 4 148 km² (8,5% of the Slovak Republic’s territory) ranks on the penultimate place within the regions of the Slovak Republic. The largest district is Dunajská Streda with its size of the territory 1 075 km², the smallest district is Hlohovec with its territory’s size 267 km². The other districts‘ areas: Galanta – 641 km², Piešťany – 381 km², Senica – 684 km², Skalica – 359 km² and Trnava – 741 km². The Region is made up of 251 districts, of which 16 have the status of the city (Trnava, Dunajská Streda, Šamorín, Veľký Meder, Galanta, Sereď, Sládkovičovo, Hlohovec, Leopoldov, Piešťany, Vrbové, Senica, Šaštín - Stráže, Skalica, Holíč, Gbely).

The Region with its population density 133,9 inhabitants per km² is classified into 2nd place following the Region of Bratislava. In separat districts the population density is different. Most inhabitants at an average on 1 km² live in the districts of Trnava with 173,8 inhabitants, Hlohovec - 171,4, Piešťany - 165,7 and Galanta - 146,1 inhabitants. The lowest population density is in the district of Senica, where on 1 km² live at an average 88,6 inhabitants, in the district of Dunajská Streda - 108,7 inhabitants and in Skalica where on 1 km² live 130 people.
